I am a retired Professor of Economics at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen. I taught there, as a member of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, from October 2004 to March 2022. From 2013 to August 2023, I was serving as a Scientific Director at the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IAW) at the Universität Tübingen.

I am a Fellow of the CESifo Research Network, a Research Professor at rhe Ifo Center for International Economics and Mercator Fellow at the Research Training Group "Regional Disparities & Economic Policy" of the Univerities of Duisburg-Essen, of Bochum and TU Dortmund.

My fields of interest in ongoing research are international trade (comparative advantage, offshoring, trade policy), international migration, and European integration.

From 1996 to 2004 I was Professor of Economics at the Johannes Kepler University Linz and from 1992 to 1996 I was Professor of Economics at the University of Essen. I took my doctorate degree from the Universität Innsbruck, where I was Assistant Professor of Economics until 1992. In 1979/1980 I was Postgraduate Occasional Student at the University of Birmingham (UK), and in 1987/1988 I was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
